Ken Wan
尹健文

Born in Hong Kong in 1953, he is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Xinhua Book City Publishing Co., Ltd., Dean of the Hong Kong Branch of Beijing Zhonggan Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, and Chairman of the Ink and Colour Imagery Culture and Education Foundation. His father, Wan Pui Ling (大尹), graduated from the Guangdong Provincial School of Art in 1937 (during the tenure of Principal Ding Yanyong). Wan has studied art under his father since childhood. After graduating from secondary school, he furthered his studies at Linghai School of Art and the Hong Kong Polytechnic, receiving systematic art education. In his early years, he excelled in watercolour creation. In recent years, he has combined traditional Chinese brush-and-ink imagery with Impressionism, adding varying degrees of ink rendering to the wet-on-wet watercolour technique, developing a style of his own. Due to his publishing work, most of his works are book and album designs, and he describes himself as a “book designer who loves painting.”

In his artistic journey, two important figures have influenced him: his father, who was his first teacher, and Professor King Ka Lun, who inspired him to integrate the brushwork and line techniques of Chinese calligraphy and painting, bringing rich colours into ink wash to express the beauty of the integration of East and West. Wan is dedicated to building friendships through painting and striving to promote the exchange and revival of traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting art.
